I believe double waved yellows means obstruction on the track with marshals on the scene.

There’s a lot of what the fuck going on here. I’m struggling to imagine a sanctioning body that didn’t train the F&C guys to throw a r ed flag for a car upside down and on fire in the middle of the track . A double what the fuck goes out to a sanctioning body that has licensed drivers that are going at race pace under a not just a double yellow, but any yellow at all.  The dude in the sports racer who was directly behind the wreck as it happened went by it slower than an entire field of cars that came up to a waiving double yellow.  What the fuck...

Then again, we had the Spec Miata race in Sonoma last year where a dumbfuck managed to get punted by the tow truck. Those guys were also at race pace under a standing local yellow like th ere was a LeMans win was on the line by trying to gain an advantage under yellow.  Something about “cheap” spec racing classes seems to bring out the worst driver behavior.  On a related note, I did watch the latest Spec Miata Man Dramacast yesterday...

I’d place about 95% of the blame on the drivers. That was pathetic observance of waving yellows. Hell, they were still racing hard with a safety vehicle (with lights!)  on track.

i grew up seeing it.. and in the lower classes still see it sometimes (thankfully without the death so much nowadays)

but f1 nowadays is so safe i rarely ever worry when i see a crash....and thats a good thing

tho... im sure sooner or later there will be another horror crash that brings about the next wave of safety improvements
